One of my favourite artists in the world is Alice Russell. I originally discovered her at the Big Chill more than a few years ago, and back in 2008, she played a set there hosted by her then record label, Tru Thoughts.
It was a pick ‘n’ mix bag of Alice doing a live version of The White Stripes’ Seven Nation Army and TM Juke adding his usual splash of hip-hop soul to the set. My new discovery, tucked into the first ten minutes, was Belleruche – a bluesy trio fronted by Kathrin deBoer (who just so happened to be raised on a ‘pirate ship’ in the South Pacific).
In short, I adore them and their new track Clockwatching has been on repeat all week. The quality of this video is top notch too.
